Ellenton, FL (November 12, 2020) – On Wednesday afternoon, November 11, an officer was injured as a result of a multi-vehicle accident in Ellenton.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred in the southbound lanes of I-75. At the time, a marked FHP Dodge cruiser and a pickup truck were stopped on the paved left shoulder. The driver of a passenger vehicle lost control on the wet roads and collided with the rear of the FHP cruiser. This caused the cruiser to strike the right side of the pickup truck, which was owned by a construction company.
The accident was so forceful that the cruiser was propelled forward approximately 50 feet until it came to a rest on the southbound paved shoulder. The FHP trooper had just reentered his vehicle when the accident occurred.
Police confirmed that the trooper was the only person injured as a result of the accident. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
