Lake Alfred, FL (January 7, 2020) – Polk County deputies responded to the scene of a car accident around 9:30 p.m. last night, January 6.
Police claim that a 19-year-old teen was injured when her vehicle crashed into another that was headed the wrong way. A 51-year-old woman was traveling westbound in the wrong lane with no headlights. The 19-year-old girl was headed east, which is when the two vehicles collided.
Police had to remove the 51-year-old from her vehicle. She was immediately taken to the hospital and passed away.
The 19-year-old female was hospitalized at Lakeland Regional Health and is expected to make a recovery.
A witness said that they never saw the vehicle headed in the wrong direction because of how dark it was.
The accident remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and her family in hopes of a full recovery.
