Lakeland, FL (August 11, 2020) – Late last night, August 10, serious injuries were reported following a car crash in Lakeland.
Police confirmed that a man was driving on Martin Luther King Boulevard in a stolen SUV around midnight. Police said that the driver was identified as a 21-year-old male with a 29-year-old male passenger. The driver let the passenger out and then continued east onto George Jenkins Boulevard.
When the driver entered the intersection of George Jenkins Boulevard and Sloan Avenue, the vehicle crossed into the westbound lanes of traffic and drove in the wrong direction. The driver then negotiated a sudden curve, where the stolen vehicle struck a Nissan Altima.
The driver of the stolen vehicle was injured as a result of the accident. The 19-year-old woman driving the Nissan Altima and her 10-month-old daughter were taken to Lakeland Regional Health with serious injuries. Their current conditions are not yet known.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the intersection for several hours.
No further details have been provided. Police continue their investigation.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
