Pinellas Park, FL (September 15, 2020) – Around 4 a.m. on Monday, September 14, a driver was injured following an accident caused by a reckless driver in Pinellas Park.
Pinellas County Sheriff’s officials confirmed that the accident took place after police tried to stop a driver who was driving recklessly. The driver was identified as a 33-year-old man who was driving his Ford Mustang near 34th Street and 54th Avenue.
Deputies attempted to pull over the driver but he fled. He continued to drive recklessly until he reached the intersection of Park Boulevard and 66th Street. As he was going through the intersection, he struck the rear of a Honda CRV and a Toyota Sequoia.
The Toyota came to a stop in the parking lot but the driver of the Honda lost control due to the forceful impact. Their vehicle slid into the southbound lanes of traffic where it then tipped onto its driver’s side.
The driver of the Mustang crashed in the southbound lanes and got out of his vehicle, attempting to flee on foot. He was apprehended by police a short while later.
The driver of the Toyota was not injured. However, the driver of the Honda and the 33-year-old suspect were both injured as a result and taken to local hospitals. They are expected to recover.
The driver of the Mustang is facing charges of fleeing and eluding, possession of cocaine and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.
The investigation into the accident continues.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
