Riverview, FL (September 22, 2020) – Around 2:58 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, a fatal bicycle accident took place in Riverview.
Police confirmed that a 45-year-old man from Tampa was riding his bicycle near the intersection of US Highway 41 and Riverview Drive when he was struck by a vehicle. The vehicle was identified as an SUV being driven by 24-year-old Brian Laxton on US Highway 41 as he approached the intersection.
The victim, who has not yet been fully identified, was thrown onto the sidewalk and his bicycle was dragged by the SUV. Laxton kept driving but police were able to stop him at Beach Avenue.
Laxton has since been charged with DUI manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident involving a death.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident remains ongoing.
