Tampa Bicycle Crashes
Bicycle riders are much more likely to be seriously injured in a crash due to their lack of protection and greater exposure. Hundreds of cyclists are killed annually in deadly crashes, and these fatalities have continued to rise rapidly in recent years. There were 843 confirmed deaths related to bicycle accidents nationwide in 2019.
Cyclists are at a serious disadvantage when involved in a crash with a motor vehicle and are more likely to suffer from life-threatening injuries. Unlike those traveling in passenger cars, bicyclists have little protection from the full impact of an accident, and the resulting injuries can be life-changing. Drivers are required to yield the right of way and share the road with those on bicycles.
