St. Petersburg, FL (November 20, 2019) – Around 1 a.m. on the morning of November 17, a serious collision took place at the intersection of 38th Avenue and 49th Street in St. Petersburg.
A 45-year-old female deputy was on duty at the time of the collision. She was driving a marked 2010 Ford Crown Victoria headed eastbound on 38th and started to make a turn onto 49th Street.
At the same time, a 32-year-old woman was driving a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis traveling west on 38th and approaching the intersection. Deputies claim that the traffic light was yellow on both ends when the deputy made a turn into the path of the other driver. The second driver ran into the passenger’s side of the deputy’s vehicle.
A 33-year-old male deputy was a passenger at the time and was taken to the hospital with injuries. He was treated for injuries while there.
No other parties were injured. Police claim that the second driver was charged with driving under the influence.
No other details have been released but police continue their investigation at this time.
