Tampa, FL (May 3, 2021) – An alleged drunk driver caused three collisions in Tampa on Sunday, May 2, while traveling in the wrong direction on a highway.
The accidents reportedly occurred on Interstate 4 at around 6:20 p.m. that evening. Local reports revealed that 28-year-old Terrence Murphy of Tampa was driving a 2011 Dodge Journey east on the westbound lanes of the interstate. One driver crashed into a barrier wall to avoid crashing into Murphy’s vehicle near the interchange for 50th Street.
Murphy continued driving on the highway, causing two vehicles to collide head-on after another driver attempted to avoid a collision near the interchange for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. A third driver also crashed into a barrier wall to avoid a crash near Orient Road.
Authorities were later to stop Murphy, and he is currently facing multiple charges, including driving under the influence. An investigation into the cause of the incident is underway.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
