Tampa, FL – Hit-and-Run Bicycle Accident on 136th Ave E

Tampa, FL (November 2, 2020) – Around 2:50 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, a hit-and-run bicycle accident took place in Tampa.

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies confirmed that the crash took place on 136th Avenue East heading toward 20th Street. A 26-year-old man was driving his Kia station wagon when he ran the stop sign and struck another vehicle. The impact was so forceful that both were sent forward. The Kia rammed a bicyclist who was riding south in the area.

The bicyclist, who has not yet been identified by police, was immediately transported to Tampa General Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was injured and also treated. Their conditions are not known at this time.

The driver of the Kia immediately fled the scene of the crash after it happened. He later turned himself into deputies. He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving without a driver’s license, and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage. He is still in jail.

The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
