Tampa, FL (November 14, 2019) – The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene of a fatal accident on FL-93A that led to the deaths of two victims.
The fiery crash took place when a Mazda came to a stop in the northbound lanes of traffic on the highway. Six vehicles started to slow down. However, the driver of a tractor-trailer did not see that the vehicles were stopped.
The driver of the tractor-trailer attempted to drive into the center lane so that he could avoid hitting the vehicles. However, instead of avoiding the collision, his vehicle struck the rear-end of an Equinox, which then pushed the smaller vehicle into a Buick and a BMW in a chain-reaction crash.
The tractor-trailer then struck a Mercedes and another large truck. The driver of the Mercedes was trapped between the two tractor-trailers.
The initial tractor-trailer driver then struck the pillar of an overhead sign and landed on top of the Mercedes. This caused the Mercedes to catch on fire. Both of the vehicles were engulfed in flames. Sadly, both drivers died at the scene of the accident.
There were multiple injuries reported in this crash.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims at this time. Our thoughts are with all of the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
