Sarasota, FL (November 13, 2019) – Around 9 p.m. on Monday, November 11, police responded to the scene of a serious pedestrian accident in Sarasota.

The accident, according to police, took place at the intersection of US-41 and 23rd Street. The pedestrian was struck by a hit-and-run driver who fled the scene.

The Florida Highway Patrol claims that the victim was in a marked crosswalk and had been permitted to walk with a green crosswalk when he was suddenly struck. The vehicle that struck him may have been a gray SUV.

Police claim that the vehicle was sitting at a red traffic light before it drove through and struck the man. The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was taken to the Manatee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities continue their investigation of the accident at this time.
